Festive Spiced Mincemeat

Servings: Makes 1 6lb jar

Mix all the ingredients together in a large bowl. Preheat oven to 110°C/225°F/Gas ½.


Cover the bowl with a plate and place in the oven for 1 hour to melt the suet. When the cooking time is up, remove the bowl from the oven and stir really well a few times, so that everything is fully coated in the suet. Leave the oven on.


To sterilise the jars, wash them and their lids in hot, soapy water really well and dry them thoroughly with a clean tea towel. Arrange the jars and lids on a baking tray and transfer to the oven for 5 minutes.


Fill the jars with the mincemeat and seal whilst both are still warm to create a firm seal. Store in a cool, dry place until ready to use.
