Edamame beans are soya beans that have been harvested early while they are still soft. They are green and differ in color from regular soyabeans, which are typically light brown, tan or beige. They are high in protein with 155g (or 1 cup) of edamame beans providing 18.5 grams of protein.
Edamame beans are often sold in their pods, which are not meant to be eaten. You can also buy shelled edamame, without the pods.
They are very versatile and are often used in Asian cooking.
