Meriel Armitage built her name on the London foodie scene as co-founder of vegan taco joint, Club Mexicana. Putting her culinary creativity to work again, Armitage has recently overtaken East End pub, The Spread Eagle, and transformed its once traditional interiors into a plant based haven.

The location, which was only opened this January, is already drawing crowds of cosmopolitan foodies, with its delicious all-vegan menu, vegan drinks and ‘everybody’s welcome’ attitude – which even extends to dogs – meaning you never have to dine without your fluffy companion again!

Delicious delicacies

The tempting menu reflects Club Mexicana’s authentic street food style. From tacos, nachos and burritos, to their specially-curated ‘beer pairing’ dishes, the vivacious vegan menu is packed with flavour, variety and even a scrumptious sounding ‘Mexican deep fried ice cream with chilli chocolate’ pudding. While, when it comes to the all-important drinks offering, The Spread Eagle boasts rotating cask ales, which are specially brewed without the addition of finings – making them natural, deliciously tasty and 100 per cent vegan! A niche selection of vegan wines and luscious cruelty-free cocktails also join the fold.

Decadent décor

Making sure not to stray from their vegan morals, The Spread Eagle adopts an array of totally chic, rustic décor, all of which is completely cruelty-free. The bar area is bursting with warmth and colour; the combination of deep, rich blues on the bar, bar stools and wall, alongside the aged wooden floors, tables and quirky mismatched furniture make for a warm and welcoming scene. While, most recently opened is the brand’s beer garden – which is sure to be a popular spot this summer.

(Vegan) variety is the spice of life

The Spread Eagle isn’t simply about scrumptious vegan food and drink, the pub also hosts a huge variety of live music nights. From 11pm – 2am every Friday and Saturday, the pub transforms from a cosy, comfortable eatery to a lively venue, with performers including Death on the Balcony (Friday 8th June); Sleazy Wonder (Saturday 16th June) and Ben Pearce (Saturday 23rd June); while a commemorative ‘Prince Party’ is set to take place this Thursday, 7th June, from 7pm – midnight.

For great food, delicious drinks and an awesome line-up of live events, take a trip to The Spread Eagle, 224 Homerton High Street, London.
