Nutty Christmas Trees

Servings: Makes: 6-8

Ingredients

2 tbsp
Soft, light brown sugar
2 tbsp
Dairy-Free Butter
1/4 tsp
Pinch
Nutmeg

You will also need:

long kebab skewers, soaked in water if wooden

Method

Preheat the oven to 200°C/400°F/Gas 6

Unroll the pastry sheet, cut off a quarter from the length and set aside.

Combine the nuts, sugar, butter, cinnamon and nutmeg in a bowl and beat together with a wooden spoon until well combined.

Spread this mix over the remaining pastry, then cut strips of pastry from the shorter side, approximately 2cm wide.

Carefully pick up a strip of pastry and thread onto a wooden skewer whilst folding backwards and forth on itself, starting wider at the bottom and narrower at the top, like a Christmas tree. Leave enough space at the top for the star! Do the same with the rest of the pastry (about 8 trees).

Take the remaining quarter sheet of pastry and cut out 8 small stars with a small cookie cutter. Thread the top of the skewer through the pastry star.

Transfer the trees to a baking tray and bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes, until the pastry is puffed and golden.
