Method

1

For the seitan, to a blender add the tofu, vegetable stock, nutritional yeast, smoked paprika and BBQ sauce and blend until smooth. Then put the vital wheat gluten and plain flour into a bowl and pour in the liquid mixture. Mix together to form a dough, season to taste. Knead for 5-6 minutes until the dough becomes stretchy.

2

Split the dough into 8 equal pieces and roll them tightly in tin foil into sausage shapes, twisting the ends of the foil to make sure they are compacted. Place the sausages into a steamer for 45 minutes, allow to cool.

3

To make the coating, mix together the flour, paprika, sugar, onion powder, and garlic powder. Once the seitan has cooled, put the seitan sausages onto skewers and use a knife to cut around the seitan in a spiral, then pull them slightly to form a spring shape. Roll the seitan into the soya milk mixture, then into the flour and spice mixture, ensuring an even coating. Once coated, heat the oil in a frying pan over a medium-high heat and fry the twizzlers for 3-4 minutes on each side until golden and crisp. Remove the skewers
and serve.
